Standing and Walking (Slackline Trick Tutorial)

This is a great tutorial for when you are just getting started in the great sport of slacklining.  By the end of this tutorial you will understand the basics of how to get up and walk from one end to the other end of a slackline.  When starting out it is best to set up your line as close to the ground as possible but not so low that when you stand on it the strap touches the ground.  You want to have it set up around knee height as this is the easiest height to mount the line and you will be doing plenty of that at first.  You do not need to set up the line at a very far distance, and really dont want to go more than about 15 feet or so.  The longer the line setup, or distance between trees, the harder it is going to be to learn. So short is good when starting out.  You want to get the strap as tight as you can get it as this will make things easier.  When it comes to wearing shoes it is all up to personal preference.  Some people like to wear shoes as it gives them more padding for the bottom of their foot when on the line and when jumping off and also gives their toes a little bit more protection than when barefoot.  But in the end it is really all up to you of course, do what is most comfortable.  Remember to keep your hands up and out.  Keep your feet facing down the line in the direction that you are going.  One key thing that helps a lot is to pick a point at the end of the line and stare at it, by doing this your balance will increase greatly.  Remember that it isn’t easy at first, don’t get discouraged you will get it with time.  Even when you are really shaky at first it seems like you wont be able to do it but as you keep trying it, many times, it will all of the sudden click in your head and you start to be able to get more steps in and shake less. Just be patient!  The key is to relax and go slow at first.  Don’t try to run across the line.  If it helps have a friend walk with you next to the line and put a hand on their shoulder when you start to get off balance.
